Lisa Sangelo, L.A.
Hailing from Perth, Western Australia, I have lived and worked in Boulder County since 1999. Beyond my degree and licensure in Landscape Architecture, my studies include Arid-land Horticulture, Permaculture and Fine Arts. I have traveled extensively and consider myself a ‘global citizen’.
Having made my home in Colorado and raised my family here, I believe that a sense of place and belonging have a significant impact on quality of life.
Further, in keeping with the Aboriginal sense of ‘Country’, I understand that we can only truly ‘belong’ when we acknowledge, respect and reciprocate with the land and community we call home.
THE VISION:
These climate and ecologically critical times call for a radically different approach to landscaping from the resource heavy and ecosystem destroying ways which have preceded.
These are the high, dry plains of Colorado originally covered in arid grasslands. A water-wise approach with a suited plant and material palette does not have to compromise the design intent. Rather, a sustainable and regenerative goal can add substantially to the meaning and enjoyment of the place.
When we acknowledge where we are and reciprocate with the appropriate respect, we get to heal too.
These days, the notion of doing less to achieve more resonates strongly with me. Or, as the influential designer, Dieter Rams promotes: “Weniger, aber besser”
Less, but Better.
